Whether you have been married for decades or only a few years, you should do something special for Valentine’s Day. Even a small gesture helps commemorate the love that you share. If you’re looking for an enjoyable, simple Valentine’s Day evening, look no further than your own home.

3 Reasons To Stay Home For Valentine’s Day

Years ago, going out to a fancy restaurant was the most special way to spend the holiday. Now that I have children, staying in has more of an appeal to me. Even at home, our celebrations can continue. Check out three reasons why you can have an excellent evening at home.

1. You can include the children (before putting them to bed)

Children love celebrating Valentine’s Day too. Make the day special for them. Since the holiday falls on a weekday this year, you only have a short amount of time to see each other after your children come home from school and before bed time. Together, you can make a special meal and surprise them with a small gift. Some chocolates or a stuffed toy is very thoughtful.  This year, I can’t wait to look through all the treats and cards my daughter brings home from school. For a fun evening, we will play a board game and read a few books together. Taking the time to reconnect will remind everyone of how loved they are.

2. You can save money

Sometimes, spending money can be stressful. One evening out can easily cost hundreds. If you would spend more time stressing over the money spent than enjoying the evening, don’t go for an expensive experience. Save money and have a simple night at home. Instead of expensive gifts, exchange coupons and make a special meal.

3. Your evening has a more intimate setting

Skip the long lines, waiting, and crowds. Even if you get a nice reservation, restaurants will be packed for Valentine’s Day, and movie theaters will be too. With so many people going out, you will have a better chance of reconnecting by staying home.

Even though some of the most memorable evenings I’ve had out involve incredible food, I also have vivid memories of crowds. Over the years, staying home started to sound more appealing. I can relax, wear something comfy, and be myself.

Instead of stressing over making homemade food, try a Tapas for Two Gift Box of Spanish Food from La Tienda. We sampled this delicious collection of food over the weekend. Instead of everyone chowing down on pizza and then heading off to do separate activities, we enjoyed taking time to catch up as we ate. Since tapas, or small dishes, are perfect for snacking, they lead to good conversation. Excellent idea! My husband and I have decided to do a ‘no cost’ Valentines day this year, part of that will be learning to cook something new!

I love staying home for Valentine’s Day, so this post was just my style! And we love trying to think of new foods to try or meals to make on that day (last year we made fondue). I have never heard of this Tapas box so it would make a nice treat for sure!

Yep staying in is the way to go! I prepared a dinner of bacon wrapped filet mignon, sauted jumbo shrimp sitting on a bed of garlic truffle mashed potatoes and drizzled with a garlicky buerre blanc and French greens beans on the side. This dinner would have cost a good $150.00 for 2 …. we saved a bundle and it was fantastic!

In the summer months we eat tapas a lot … I just love to snack for hours in the evenings with a libation in my hand.

We stayed home for V-day this year to save money! No shame in my game. Moving into a new place this weekend and moving is soooo expensive haha

I stayed home for Valentine’s Day. I agree with your reasons! I also do it because I don’t like waiting in line for two hours to eat, lol. It’s definitely a smarter way to go!

Staying home for Valentine’s day is what we normally do. I love how low key it is, but also that we can include the kids in the holiday!

I stayed home for Vday this year because I was so sick! No biggie but yeah I think going out for reservations are so cliche I would prefer a creative night in!

We have stayed in for Valentine’s Day for the past eight years. It’s no coincidence that we have an eight year old daughter! 🙂

We LOVE to stay in and do tapas. We are also avid backpackers and believe it or not, tapas carry so well and totally hit the spot after a long day of hiking. Great v day idea!

I’m all about saving money and feeling less cheesy about celebrating. I hate going out on Valentines to a restaurant and sitting there with everyone else.

I know what you mean! Luckily this year we found a really secluded spot in a restaurant, but some feel like you’re eating with all the other guests there!
