When Disney’s live action movie Beauty and the Beast arrived in my mail box, I could barely contain my excitement. Because of a busy schedule, we never ended up seeing the movie in theaters. Watching the movie at home was a highlight of our weekend. We settled in for the night with some homemade gray stuff, a lovely stuffed Build-a-Bear Belle, and the girls in their never-been-worn Belle dresses. It was quite the night to remember!

3 Reasons To Own The Beauty and the Beast Live Action Blu-Ray

Whether you have already seen the movie in theaters or are waiting to watch it for the first time, the blu-ray is well worth owning. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, check out a few reasons why you should own the blu-ray.

1. You can learn about the making of the movie with the bonus footage.

Watching the bonus footage shows the fascinating events behind the movie. When you watch how the scenes were made, you can understand the incredible work that went into the movie.

My children enjoyed watching the part showing how Belle (Emma Watson) had to act alone in the Be Our Guest scene. It was neat to think about acting with no one else in the scene, and doing that again and again for several days. Since the scene was so real to my children, they thought it was funny to see what actually happened when the scene was created.

I enjoyed learning the story behind the character Gaston. Although he is a simple character, vain and narcissistic, he has a deeper side to him. Because he was a war hero, he is suffering from some of the side effects of being in the war.

2. The movie is truly incredible.

With this live action version of Beauty and the Beast, the story truly comes to life. This was my first time to watch the movie, and I was truly amazed. Each line and scene seemed so much more vibrant and noticeable than it was in the cartoon. The lines seemed more articulate and memorable. There were several parts of the plot that I didn’t fully understand or think about until watching the live action movie.

Beauty and the Beast is by far my favorite Disney movie, and now, this new live action version is my favorite. With a brave, educated woman as the heroine of the movie, children learn to think about what really matters. I love that this story encourages girls to follow their education and look for friends and even a future prince who loves to read too.

As a side note, you can participate in a new Beauty and the Beast summer program with DOGObooks. Children can write and submit book reports on popular chapter books all summer. After submitting a certain amount of book reviews, you can win prizes that include lip moisturizer, a book called Belle’s Library, and the 25th anniversary edition blu-ray combo pack of Beauty and the Beast. My daughter can’t wait to participate!

3. You can turn watching the movie into a festive celebration.

One of the best parts of watching the blu-ray at home was turning our house into Belle’s castle. We all enjoyed some gray stuff that I made with Oreos and pudding. The children wore their Belle dresses, and my husband even found a blue robe and red tie to try to fit the look of the Beast!

During the movie, my daughters could sing as much as they wanted, and the Build a Bear Belle even burst into song at one time. If we had been in a movie theater, we would have disturbed other guests. It was nice to watch my children singing along with their new favorite movie.

Also, since I had heard the movie had a couple scary parts, watching it at home had the benefit of being able to pause it if the children got scared. I was glad to discover that no one got scared! My younger daughter turned her head away at one point when the wolves were on screen, but she wasn’t worried after that moment passed.

All in all, owning the blu-ray is wonderful! I am so happy to add it to our collection of blu-rays to watch again and again.

Love the picture of your girls. I’m sure it is amazing as a little kid to see the behind the scenes of how live action is made. And to see how “magic comes to life.” And the great thing about being a little kid is that you really can enjoy watching your favorites over and over again. So I’m sure that blu-ray will get lots of use.

Would you believe I have never seen Beauty and the Beast? My son isn’t really that into musicals or Disney, but it sounds really cool. I may have to force him to watch it with me 🙂

I’m always a sucker for all the bonus footage when I’m purchasing a movie. I just find it all so fascinating. Especially with movies that use a bunch of CGI and special effects. Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite growing up. I can’t wait to check this out!
