Popcorn Bird Nest Easter Treats

We can’t wait for Easter! From the outdoor Easter egg hunts to the special family meal, this is one of my family’s favorite holidays. Since we always sit down to watch one of our favorite Easter movies (Hop is a top favorite), a simple movie snack recipe is helpful to have. This recipe for Popcorn Bird Nest Easter Treats is wonderful because it looks festive, is easy to make, and my children adore it. It’s also convenient to make because more of the ingredients are things you already have in your kitchen cupboard.

Ingredients:

1 bag movie popcorn

1/2 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 10 oz bag marshmallows

1/2 bag Whoppers mini Robin Egg candy

Directions:

Pop one bag of popcorn in your microwave. Listen closely to when the kernels stop popping and remove from the microwave when it sounds quiet to make sure you don’t burn the popcorn. While the popcorn is popping, put butter in a pan on the stove. Let the butter melt, and add the brown sugar. Mix as it simmers. Then add the marshmallows. Let melt, and then stir frequently. When the liquid ingredients are melted and mixed well, take off the stove top and let cool.

Put the popcorn in a large bowl. Add in the liquid ingredients, stirring frequently. Make sure that the liquid mixture covers the popcorn completely. You might not have to add all the liquid ingredients. If you add too much, the popcorn can get soggy, feel too hot, and not hold a shape well.

Before you shape the bird’s nests, double check that the popcorn is cool enough that you can touch it, but also warm enough that you can shape it. Roll the popcorn into small balls, and use your thumbs to create the nest. Press firmly and make sure you don’t break the popcorn. Inside each nest, add about four chocolate eggs. Serve and enjoy!

Even though you can make bird’s nest out of other ingredients, we prefer this popcorn version because it works perfectly for our Easter family movie night. These were simple to make and turned out delicious. My children loved eating them!
