Sonic's Limeades for Learning & Theresa's Reviews Giveaway! $200 to DonorsChoose and $50 to Sonic

Donating To A DonorsChoose Teacher

When looking for a DonorsChoose campaign to fund, I had two things in mind. First, I wanted to donate to a program for children who really need help. Next, I wanted my donation to support a local program to improve our community. The project I funded was a Pre-K program that offers early intervention services for students with special needs while it also supports children who come from disadvantaged economic backgrounds, homelessness, and foster care. Since early childhood is a time that helps shape a child’s future, giving to this classroom meant a lot to me.

Limeades For Learning Campaign

If you check out the Projects currently featured on Limeades for Learning, you can get an idea of the different classroom needs to fund. From Pre-K to high school, subject areas include health and sports, literacy and language, history and civics, math and science, special needs, and applied learning. The resources the classrooms are requesting includes books, technology, supplies, trips, visitors, and more.

Teachers play a critical role in shaping the future of local communities all across the country. Yet every year, teachers spend about $500 of their own money on basic school supplies to help improve classroom experiences for their students.

Recognizing that public school teachers needed more support, SONIC Drive-In partnered with DonorsChoose.org ten years ago to come up with a solution. In 2009 SONIC launched Limeades for Learning.

Limeades for Learning® is a national award-winning initiative to support U.S. public school teachers in local communities.

Since the launch of SONIC’s Limeades for Learning philanthropic campaign in partnership with DonorsChoose.org, SONIC has donated $9.5 million to public school teachers nationwide to fund essential learning materials and innovative teaching resources to inspire creativity and learning in today’s youth.

There are now three periods in which SONIC makes $1 million donations to public schools:

    1. During the Fall Voting Campaign, which typically runs from late September through October
    2. Throughout the months of January through April during a series of surprise funding events in cities across the country – as an example, SONIC funded 75 teacher projects from across the country in honor of National Handwriting Day
    3. Throughout the month of May during #ThanksTeach, a social media campaign encouraging consumers to thank their favorite teachers during Teacher Appreciation Month

With the help and support of Sonic fans, by 2021 the total contribution to local public school classrooms will exceed $20 million.

I would use the DonorsChoose gift card for a local school project, such as the Special Tablets for Special Students project I found on their site.

I narrowed it down by zip code and there are about 30 projects in my area seeking funding. I would explore all of those and donate to one, or a few of those those.

I’d use it to fund First Grade Engineers for Castle Heights Elementary School (chipping in the extra $11 myself.) It seems like a good cause and it’s nice to know the gift card could help them reach their goal and start the program!

As a long time donor with DonorsChoose I know how to turn that $200 into $400 (or more)! The education community is by far the best investment today. Teachers are the best communicators on the planet and with social media they consistently help each other fund critical projects. Special thanks to DonorsChoose and Sonic for partnering with you to raise awareness! #ItMatters

I would donate supplies like tablets. Especially for children that have mental health challenges. Obviously due to circumstances beyond their control, they need extra attention and guidance.
