Whether you want to teach your child about friendship or about enjoying nature, you are in the right place. Today on Theresa’s Reviews, I’m featuring our recent Wellie Wisher Garden Picnic with the Willa doll, who my daughters are excited to add to their American Girl Wellie Wisher collection! With summer soon approaching, now is the perfect time to go outside for a picnic, and the Wellie Wisher dolls make the perfect companions for this experience.
Wellie Wisher Garden Picnic With Willa
If you have followed along with our other journeys, you can tell how much my children adore American Girl dolls. This year American Girl played a big role in our birthdays with an American Girl Themed Birthday and the Emerson doll as a major gift at Our Simple 5th Birthday Celebration. When we recently added Willa to the collection, it was the perfect time to throw a Wellie Wisher Garden Picnic with the four dolls!
Since the Wellie Wisher dolls and book series are known for their lessons in friendship, a picnic was a wonderful way to further explore the idea of friendship. With lessons of sharing food equally, choosing a menu everyone would enjoy, and agreeing on a location, having a picnic is a good activity to teach about friendship.
For the picnic, I made fruit skewers, tuna salad with crackers, and delicious Italian subs. Having a leisurely meal outside is a nice reminder to enjoy the experience of dining as a family. After the meal, exploring the great outdoors fits well with Willa’s personality because she is known for always being the first to climb a tree.
Since Wellie Wisher dolls love playing in Aunt Miranda’s garden, the garden was the perfect location for our picnic. Each doll brought food, sunscreen, and a drink.
After eating at the picnic, it was the perfect time to play! Since playing teaches children about friendship, it’s a must-do activity for a Wellie Wisher garden party.
When we recently visited the American Girl store, we bought the hutch for Willa’s rabbit named Carrot. It was nice to finally have the doll to go along with the accessory! The doll is known for loving animals.
Willa wears a hedgehog tee shirt, a green hedgehog printed skirt with satin ribbon trim, and a fabric bunny ear headband. Her red Wellie boots have adorable ladybug faces. She has strawberry blonde hair that comes in pigtails pulled back with the headband. With a freckled complexion, she hazel eyes.
Not only was my daughter excited to explore the great outdoors with her brand new Willa doll, but she was also happy to check out Willa’s accessory with the Explore the Outdoors Set. With the set came a birdhouse with a bird perched on it, an adorable green print cargo vest, a walking stick with a wriggly worm, pretend animal crackers that come in an animal cookie box, and a pretend instant camera.
My daughter’s favorite part was the pretend instant camera. Even though this was her first time to see it in person, she already knew all about how it worked, so she must have really been wanting it for a while! You turn a knob and three photos taken in Aunt Miranda’s garden come out, just like a real camera.
One thing American Girl does successfully is offer dolls that fit with educational activities. With Willa, you can teach about friendship by planning a Wellie Wisher Garden Picnic, and there are many more possibilities! Children can bring their instant camera on a nature hike and learn about photography, animals, and bugs, and they can research what you would need to do to take care of a rabbit as a pet. When you give your child an American Girl doll, you bring home learning opportunities that children truly will enjoy.
