If you are looking for tips on how to throw the ultimate Moana party, you’re in the right place! Whether you are throwing a spring or summer birthday party or simply want to celebrate the Blu Ray release on March 7th, these four tips will help the whole family enjoy a festive, island-inspired celebration.
4 Simple Steps For Throwing The Ultimate Moana Party
1. Wear island clothes.
Island clothes will give the party a festive ambiance. You could buy Moana costumes from the Disney Store – they are adorable – but if you don’t have the costume, no worries. It’s simple to add island accessories to your clothes. Since Moana wears a leaf headpiece, I sewed leaves together with a needle and thread. At the grocery store, I bought some tropical flowers. As a final touch, I got matching orange leis. Not only were the island outfits inexpensive, but they also made the party more fun for my daughters. Both girls loved becoming princess Moana for our fabulous Moana party.

Even if you don’t own the Disney Moana costume, you can easily make an outfit for a Moana party. Create a leaf headband by sewing leaves together with needle and thread. Then, buy tropical flowers and a matching lei.
2. Decorate with fun crafts.
You can use crafts to create a centerpiece for your food table. Use the characters in the movie as inspiration. For example, with coconuts and some paint, you can design kakamora, the coconut pirates. Everyone had fun creating their own kakamora character. One of them even has on glasses!

If you’re looking for kakamora crafts, this is incredibly simple to make. Buy coconuts and paint faces on each one. The main colors you need are red, black, brown, and white.
Another simple Moana craft we made was Tamatoa the shiny crab. Below, you can check out a Youtube video I made that gives step by step directions on how to make this DIY Tamatoa craft.
When all of the crafts were on the kitchen table, it looked nice and got everyone excited. For a simple weekend night in with the family, the festive decorations at our Moana party made everyone excited to put away our work and spend time together.

Tamatoa the shiny crab character from Moana is simple to make! Check out my Youtube video above for simple step by step directions.
3. Make tropical food.
Serve tropical food to continue the island theme. As an appetizer, I set out tropical fruits. Everyone was happy with mango, kiwi, and pineapple.
For dinner, we ate teriyaki chicken wings. They were incredible and full of flavor. With a side of pineapple rice and tropical punch for the drink, the meal brought an island ambiance to the dinner table.

With tropical-inspired food, you have so many options! We had incredible teriyaki chicken wings, pineapple rice, and tropical punch.
4. Watch the Blu Ray.
Finally, to throw the ultimate Moana party, watch the Blu Ray. It doesn’t seem long ago that I was watching Moana at the movie theatre. I remember nervously noticing a critic who took notes the entire time, while I spent my time there holding my daughter’s hand and wiping away a tear from time to time.
Moana is an inspiring movie that tells an incredible journey of a girl trying to find herself. I was proud to add this movie to my daughters’ Disney Blu-Ray collection. Girls can get a powerful message about who they should be by watching Moana learn who she truly is.
At home, we could really get into the story. Turning the movie into an celebration with decorations, special food, and crafts made it much more special than the experience of visiting a movie theater.
The morning after our Moana party, I enjoyed watching the bonus footage. From discovering which islands the crew shot the movie at to learning about the Polynesian culture behind the movie, it was educational and interesting. I also appreciated that the bonus footage included a short film, Inner Workings, that we saw in the theatre. In addition to the short film, it also had a commentary from the creator of it explaining how he came up with the idea.
Watching Moana in our home was an a fun experience for the whole family. By now, I have already watched it several times, and I still don’t get tired of the beautiful music, the compelling, strong female lead character, and the uplifting message about the different ways we can be there for our families.

Set up all the Moana party crafts on your food table. The tropical centerpieces add to the ambiance of your party.
