To celebrate Earth Day last year, I took my daughters to an advance screening of Disney Nature’s Born in China. After reviewing the theatrical release (with free printables for parents and educators that you can check out here), I was excited for the opportunity to review the Born in China Blu-ray recently as well. My daughters enjoyed watching the movie in theaters, and they couldn’t wait to share their enthusiasm for Disney’s latest nature film at home with their father too.
Disney Nature Born In China Blu-ray Review
Some of our favorite things about the movie is that throughout the narration, there is a strong focus on family. You can see the animals interact with their mother and reunite with their fathers. Visually, the movie is nice, and would be even more impressive in 4K. You can check out the trailer below.

About The Born In China Blu-ray
Although your traditional Saturday night movie might not be a nature film, this one is worth the change. We had an excellent time watching the Born in China Blu-ray. My children loved the visuals and the storyline. Not only did they watched this movie for their second time, but they also expressed interest in watching it again in the future. Born in China is a movie well worth having in our Blu-ray collection.
While the footage of the animals is spectacular, seeing the land of China is also very impressive. For the filmmakers who traveled to such remote locations, this was no easy feat. Since the movie was filmed over several seasons, filmmakers had to come up with long term solutions for filming in unique places with high altitude. Getting the right shots of these animals mattered.
Bonus Features
One of my favorite parts in the bonus footage was Panda Suits & Bamboo Shoots. The filmmakers traveled to one of the most remote parts of China to find a panda. For a month, they waited and found nothing. My children thought this part was interesting, and they had a lot of questions about how someone would eat and live while out in wild for so long.
When the filmmakers finally found a panda, they had to dress in panda suits. Wearing a panda suit kept the pandas from getting too comfortable seeing humans, which would have been dangerous for the pandas. I enjoyed seeing the precautions that the filmmakers took to keep the animals safe after filming.
In the bonus features, you can get a lot of behind the scenes footage showing how they captured such beautiful visuals. When I saw the movie in the movie theater, the ending – that showed the filmmakers on location and the animals interacting with them – was one of my favorite parts. I was glad that the bonus features showed more behind the scenes footage. Whether you want to see how they filmed the snow leopard or what it took to get footage in the wetlands, you can see much of the work that went into making the movie.
Although Born in China is rated G for all audiences, it does deal with life and death. The movie approaches such serious topics carefully and thoughtfully, but if your child is especially sensitive to such issues, it may not be the best movie to watch.

We loved this one! My mom and I don’t have too much in common, but we both love pandas so seeing this movie in theaters together gave us an opportunity to spend some quality time together that we usually just don’t make time for.
Ive not watched any of the Disney nature films yet, but this one I now want to see from reading your review.
This looks like one my son would love!
