When I was in Los Angeles for the Disney Pixar Coco premiere, I went to the Disney ABC building to live Tweet episode 106 “Rocky Road” of Kevin (Probably) Saves The World. ABC provided pizza, salad, and garlic bread during the show, which made me feel right at home! If you haven’t seen the show, it focuses on Kevin (Jason Ritter) who was living a narcissistic lifestyle before having a life-changing realization that there’s more to life than himself. With some funny moments and a heartwarming message, the show is relevant for both teens and adults.
Kevin (Probably) Saves The World “Rocky Road” Episode 106
In the latest episode, Kevin is out to save the world again. He ends up giving a man the clothes off his back for an interview they both wanted. Since the desperate man was ready to do anything for a job, Kevin sees the need to help someone. He ends up standing on the sidewalk in only his boxers. The show has plenty of comic relief that I need at the end of a long day. It has joyous moments too, and it has a feel good storyline.
Kevin Was Kicked Out Of His Sister’s House
The episode also shows some awkward moments of Kevin crashing on a friend’s sofa. The drama is not a huge focus because of the overarching spiritual theme, but it does show relationships.
Amy And Kevin Learn To Get Along
In this episode, the well meaning sister to Kevin, Amy, (played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher) is struggling with how much personal space and freedom to give her teenage daughter. As a mom with two daughters, I can understand how difficult it can be to maintain a good relationship with your children while still leading them in the right direction.
There is also a focus on how Kevin always seems to screw up and not take life seriously. For instance, because of him, his niece got arrested. His sister is frustrated. Even the universe is telling him to grow up and get a job.
Why This Show Is A Success
I’m new to watching this show, but my mother who is a big fan told me that she loves most that this show has a goodness and encourages a higher level of thinking and being. She said that she likes the way Kevin goes from an unfulfilling, materialistic lifestyle to spiritual gratification to doing good.
Although I’ve only been watching the show for a short while, it’s one of my new favorites, and I can’t wait to tune in again when it airs tonight.
Interview With Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters
We also had the opportunity to interview Creators and Executive Producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters.
On Working With Jason Ritter
One of the big things they stressed was how much they appreciate working with actor Jason Ritter. They talked about his ability to do physical comedy, and how impressive his acting skills are on set.
Michele Fazekas said, “One of the things that I love about somebody like Jason, because he’s got all the tools, he will throw himself around and throw his body around at the drop of a hat. Like, he will fall down – and he told us a funny story about when he was seven, he and his buddy thought that the most awesome job obviously was Hollywood stuntman. So, that’s what they were going to be. ”
Then Tara Butters continued, “But they thought in order to do that, all you had to do was just build up your tolerance for pain. So, he and his buddy would just like, hurt themselves.”
On Writing A Religious Television Show
When asked the reason for making a show that talks about God, they explained that it was the day after the United States presidential election of 2016 that another pilot got shelved. At that point, they decided to write something for themselves. They mentioned that regardless of which side you were on for the election, that they’ve noticed an overall sense of unhappiness.
Regarding the creation of the movie, Tara Butters says, “There’s just a lot of people who are unhappy and don’t feel good about where they are in their life, and that they don’t feel heard.”
She explained that this was inspiring to them, and that they saw the need for something that comes from a good place and they wanted a show that reminds you that the little acts you do add up.
Keeping The Show Kid-Friendly
They also talked about how important it is to make something they can watch with their children. Since both of them are mothers, they enjoy being able to have their children read the script and watch it together with them.

Thoughts On The Show
With an uplifting message, this is exactly the type of family-friendly show that television needs. It’s a relief to be able to turn on a show that has a meaningful story. I really enjoyed meeting some of the women of Hollywood who make this show, and I thought their reasons for making the show were really valuable.
I was excited to get to bring home a Frankie’s coffee mug (from the coffee shop they visit in the show) and a comfortable Kevin (Probably) Saves The World tee shirt.
