Whether you are looking for local handmade home decor or new clothes for your spring wardrobe, you can find it at A La Mode Boutique. This past weekend, the boutique had its grand re-opening after having to close due to the destructive 2016 flood throughout Main Street in Old Ellicott City. With a new location that offers space for workshops and parties, the boutique is ready to continue building its relationships with the local community, while offering a great selection of springtime clothing and jewelry that are fun to check out before Mother’s Day.
A La Mode Boutique Grand Re-Opening in Old Ellicott City, Maryland
When I stopped by to check out the newly re-opened boutique, I saw the event space in the back, which offers space for making crafts. Under the craft table, you can look beneath the building with a window facing the Patapsco river that runs below. While my daughters marveled at the unique view, I pictured what the view would have been in this space when the river rose. The calm waters we saw today reminded me of how beautiful Old Ellicott City is with its unique small shops and restaurants in the hills of the Patapsco Valley.
If you’re looking for a way to spruce up your spring wardrobe, the boutique has many great looks for the current weather. Whether you want items that can transition to summer or blouses that offer some warmth, you can find a good selection of tops.
One of my favorite items were the handmade home decor signs made by a local craftsperson. When I’m shopping for home decor, I like finding pieces that support a local artist because the items hanging on my wall should say something about my family or my personality, and an item from a big retail store doesn’t do that.
Another unique find was the E.C. Strong candles made by the Unwined Candle Co. in Sykesville, Maryland. These Soy Wax candles are made from reused beverage bottles and infused with relaxing fragrances. Not only do they support a local business, but they also are environmentally friendly.
You can also find locally made lip glosses as well as some beautiful items that aren’t local, but that give more variety, such as the rings, bracelets, and necklaces. My daughters each picked out a bracelet, I chose a nice work blouse, and we got a very pretty free necklace with our purchase. This was our first time out in the Old Ellicott City area since the flood. Visiting the area reminded me how beautiful it is, as I’m sure the boutique also appreciates with its new location open now.
If you’re out in the Old Ellicott City area, make sure to stop by and check out A La Mode Boutique. You can also find them on Instagram and Facebook.
