Unlike the other moms who joined the modern cleaning movement in using steam mops that spray, I spent the last year using a mop with a bucket. In the past, mopping the floor was a hassle. Every time I mopped, I left behind a stream of cleaning liquids covering the floor that took half an hour to try, which put my children at risk, of touching or inhaling the strong smelling cleaning liquids. Now, I tried the Shark Steam & Spray mop to write a comparison of my previous method of cleaning the floors. In the past, I reviewed the Shark Rotator Pro Lift-Away Vacuum. As I was very pleased with the vacuum, I expected to reveal positive results based on my previous experience with the company’s items.

Steam Mop Review

Assembling the Steam & Spray mop was simple to do. My husband took around five to ten minutes, while I finished vacuuming the floors to prepare for mopping. As always, I read the instructions to make sure that I wouldn’t make any errors that could ruin the product or my floors the first time using the mop. When I double checked the instructions, I learned to put the mop on a different power for different floor surfaces. I also learned not to use the mop on any damaged floors. I knew to make a conscious effort to skip some areas that were water damaged.

I noticed that the instructions didn’t go in depth with how to use the product, although it gave detailed information about what not to do with the mop and provided pictures. At first, I wasn’t sure what the cord was for because the mop came with batteries. When I used the mop, I realized that it wasn’t battery powered. Plugging in the cord was necessary for the mop to function. Luckily, the cord was long, which made using the mop around my 3000 square foot rental home simple to do.

When I first turned the mop on, it made a strong, rattling sound, which meant that the steamer was warming up in preparation. I noticed that the steamer was warmed up and working well after waiting about 30 seconds or a minute. As I ran the mop over my floor, I sprayed the Steam Energized Cleaner. According to the company’s website, the cleaner is non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe around kids as well as pets. While the mop steamed the floor, it also sanitized.

I was pleased with the look of the floor after cleaning. Barely any cleanser was left on the floor, even though the mop had cleaned up all the dirt from the floor. Within ten minutes or so, the floor was completely dry. My daughter was ecstatic that she could return to her playroom after I cleaned it. My husband was happy that he could work on preparing his Ribeye steaks in the kitchen earlier than he expected. For me, I was happy that the bathroom floor dried quickly so I could immediately shower after mopping.

When I used the mop in the bathroom, I was thrilled with how effective it was. After I wiped down the bathroom floor with several baby wipes, there was still plenty left to clean with the mop. I could see floor stains come up immediately when I ran the mop over the spots. The shape of the washable pad helped it get in tough to reach corners where dust lingered. The mop was easy to navigate as I was able to get it into small areas without a problem.

After mopping, cleaning the washable pad was simple. I put the pad into the washing machine by itself. Even though the pad went in looking dusty and dirty, it came out looking like new. When I dried the pad, I put the heat setting on low to prevent any damage.

Now, as my floors are clean, I can notice a major difference. The floors feel better under my feet. I could tell that the Shark Steam & Spray mop was better in comparison to the old-fashioned mop and bucket I had used in the past. Clearly, the floors felt and looked better. In the future, I will plan to continue buying the cleaning solution and using the steam mop because the item was simple to use as well as effective.

I also have a steam mop and doesn’t it make such a difference?! My whole house is practically tile and I will never go back to a regular mop!

Some people say I am extreme, but I am constantly cleaning my floors.. I have little ones that play on them though, and I like them to be clean. I’ve always wanted a shark steam mop, just can’t afford to fork over the $$ for one.

I would clean the kitchen, bathrooms, living room (hardwood) and the two bedroom floors that are also hardwood. Heck, I might even clean the basement floor.

I totally appreciate how you can wash your own pads. I’m not a fan of the replaceable kind. This seems to do a great job of cleaning!
