If you’re searching for a great book to read with your children, one of the most popular books right now is Wonder by R. J. Palacio. Recently, I read it to my children, and they love it! This book is ideal for fifth grade students because that is the age of the main character, and fifth grade students might get the most from the plot, but it also works as a read aloud at home with younger children. On November 17th, you can see the movie version of Wonder. Now, Roma Boots has partnered with Wonder to make special edition Wonder Boots influenced by the movie and inspired by the message of creating kindness in the world.

Wonder The Movie

I really look forward to watching the movie with my children. I think this has the potential to be a good one. I’ve seen many teachers share their story of using the book in the classroom, and I’m noticing this more and more as we get closer to the movie’s release.

Learning to accept people’s differences is a very valuable lesson for children. Hearing the story of Auggie can help create kindness in unkind situations. It can also help children learn to accept their own differences.

Inspired by a real-life situation of a child with a facial difference, Wonder has won many awards that include Amazon Best Book of 2012, Barnes & Noble Best Book of 2012, Christopher Award Books for Young People Winner, ALA-ALSC Notable Book for Children, and International Literacy Association’s Teachers’ Choices Reading List. It will be interesting to see how well the book adapts to a movie.

Wonder the movie is made up of an all-star cast with Julia Roberts as the mom and Owen Wilson as the father. Jacob Tremblay (known as Jack from Room) plays Auggie.

Wonder (2017 Movie) Synopsis From Lionsgate:

Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman.  Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade.  As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

Lionsgate presents, in association with Walden Media and Participant Media, a Mandeville Films / Lionsgate production.

Wonder Rain Boots From Roma Boots

Roma Boots sent my daughters the brand new Wonder Rain Boots to try. With aqua blue coloring, the boots are the same color you see on the book cover and the movie posters. There is a nice design of stars and planets along the side. The design goes along with how Auggie wore a space helmet to try to disguise his face on the first day of school.

Choosing Kindness

With these Wonder boots, children can show that they choose kindness. Every pair that you buy helps make a difference in the world. For each pair purchased, Roma Boots (who hopes to give poverty the boot) donates a pair of rain boots to a child in need. They also help impoverished children around the world by donated 10% of all proceeds to educational incentives around the world.

This was our first time to try out boots from Roma Boots, and I really liked them. The boots fit my children well, and the color went nicely with their outfits.Wonder The Movie Partners With Roma Boots - Theresa's Reviews #ChooseKind #WondertheMovie

I’ve always thought teaching my children about accepting other people’s differences matters. That’s one reason why they both went to inclusive preschools. Inclusive preschools have classrooms designed to help all students, including students with special needs. My children don’t have special needs, but they benefitted greatly from going as peers and learning more about how their classmates are unique. By helping them understand at a young age that there is more to a person than how that person looks, talks, or acts, they have a good foundation to continue that later in life too. Although a classmate might not sit at circle time or may have physical differences, they can still make wonderful friends.
