When my children were younger, their scheduled time for tennis class or drama camp throughout the year was Saturday morning at 9 A.M. As we got out of bed for these early morning lessons, exhaustion set in and wasn’t gone by Monday. In summer, our plans involved camps that took hours to get ready for, 20 minutes to drive to, and left us not spending much time together. Last year, I changed our schedule. Our weekends and summer involved no scheduled activities or camps at all. Saying no to these scheduled activities was very beneficial to our family!
Why We Love Spending Weekends and Summer Doing Nothing
As I freed up our schedule, a few things happened. First, we started to make better decisions about how to spend time together. I wasn’t rushing off to squeeze in gym time during the two hours they were at camp. Instead, exercise became a family activity. We went on long walks in the neighborhood and saw the most beautiful sunset. Spontaneity paid off in the richest, most memorable experiences.
My children continued to grow academically. I prepared them for their next school year with discussions, learning apps, workbooks, reading, and road trips. Learning was integrated into our daily life.
With sports, they continued learning how to be better tennis players by focusing on developing discipline. We walked to the tennis court almost every day. Practicing regularly instilled a sense of dedication in my children.
We all learned to love the sport, while becoming better at it. As we discovered that tennis was a family activity that even mom and dad could do, the pressure for my children of being perfect at it was gone. The more they loved it, the more they wanted to play for fun, and then naturally, they got better at it.
Spending summers and weekends without scheduled activities didn’t usually mean that we were at home without any goals to focus on at all. Instead, as a family, we developed a stronger passion for the things we truly enjoyed doing, which in some ways kept us as busy as before, but without feeling busy.
During our spontaneous and fun family adventures, having snacks with us always mattered. Some of my favorite on-the-go snacks are GOOD THiNS – The Rice One Simply Salt and GOOD THiNS – The Corn One Sea Salt.
With everyone home for summer, we quickly go through food. It’s a relief to know that my favorite snack foods are easily and conveniently available using Walmart’s Online Grocery Pick Up. Using the online shopping service saves me hours, keeps me organized, and helps me choose the best deals.
Luckily online shopping is available at my local store. It’s perfect for long summer days when the kids and I don’t want to spend a beautiful day inside a store. After all, we have lightning bugs to catch and sunsets to see!
These crackers have always been one of my favorite savory snacks, and now they come in gluten-free varieties. My favorite flavor is GOOD THiNS – The Corn One Sea Salt, but you can also get other delicious flavors that include GOOD THiNS Three Cheese, GOOD THiNS Veggie Blend, and GOOD THiNS The Rice One – Simply Salt.
These delicious snacks are made with no artificial colors, flavors, or high fructose corn syrup. Packed full of robust flavor, they offer a fantastic assortment of gluten-free varieties.
With all these reasons to adore them, I always try to keep a box in my bag! Whether my children and I are relaxing in the backyard, heading to the tennis courts, or visiting historical destinations to learn, these are the most satisfying savory snack to bring along for any occasion!
A variety of GOOD THiNS, including the new delicious Three Cheese flavor, are available through Walmart Online Grocery Pick Up, making these tasty snacks an easy addition to my weekly shopping list.
