Homework has many pros. Children get a review of the topics they learned in class. Parents stay better connected with the curriculum. Unfortunately, even with all the benefits that homework can offer, it can become a major stressor. As a parent, I know it can be tough, but it’s worth trying different strategies to help homework time run more smoothly. Featured today on Theresa’s Reviews, check out how to make homework time easier and more productive.Making Homework Time Easier and More Productive - Theresa's Reviews

Create an after school routine

After school, the routine should be predictable. When children know what to expect, it can help them stick with their schedule. They can get more work completed. Make sure to schedule in breaks, but set a timer to keep break time limited.Making Homework Time Easier and More Productive - Theresa's Reviews

Stay organized

Buy school supplies that help with organization. Check with your child’s teacher first, but usually it is okay to purchase additional supplies if your child will use them productively. Recently, we switched from a folder to a pocket portfolio. Having papers separated by topic makes a big difference.

Find a study buddy

As children get older, homework expectations can be harder to keep up with in class. Find a buddy who can answer questions. Being creative with getting the homework completed on time shows responsibility.

As the homework gets completed, give incentives. Praise the work to instill confidence, and have a bigger reward for work done well and turned into the teacher on time. Our reward at the end of the week is allowance, which is based on both the homework getting turned in and doing some chores around the house.

While working on homework during the week, sweet snacks can be a good incentive to persevere. My children have a snack every day after school, and it helps them power through the work they need to do.Making Homework Time Easier and More Productive - Theresa's Reviews

One snack they enjoy is the Armour LunchMakers® + Drink. It comes with a sweet fruit bar that makes a great treat during a difficult homework assignment. Since it’s made with real fruit, it makes me happy too. Plus, the Ham and American Cheese and Turkey and American Cheese LunchMakers are a good source of protein and calcium.Making Homework Time Easier and More Productive - Theresa's Reviews

Be truly present

Sometimes, children can feel that nothing is worth doing without you. Stay truly present for as much of the homework as you can. It’s your chance to see what your children are learning and to teach them something new too.
