Spending a Night in the Majestic Kentucky Castle

When I was a child living overseas, my father read me a series The Famous Five by British author Enid Blyton, which inspired me to ask that our family could visit England on our way back to the States to see the moors and the castles. Now years later and living in America, as we recently took a road trip across the South with him and my children, we passed a castle and discovered it was also a hotel. In a serendipitous turn of events, the castle invited us to stay for an evening. Featured today on Theresa’s Reviews, check out our stay at the majestic Kentucky Castle, a hotel and event space.

Inside the Kentucky Castle, the regal decor makes it fit for a king and queen, or most recently, it was the perfect location for a celebrity wedding. Two stars of Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules,” Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwight wed there two days before our stay.

NSYNC’s Lance Bass officiated the wedding and sang “Bye, Bye, Bye” during the reception. According to a “Vanderpump Rules” reunion show last month, Cartwright said she had been wanting to get married at the castle since she was a child. After staying there myself, I can certainly see why!

The Kentucky Castle, also known as the Martin Castle, Castle Post, or Versailles Castle, offers a rooftop space with lighting perfect for special events. From there, you can look down to see the pool as well as the gardens that supply produce for the farm-to-table restaurant.

As a medieval-style stone castle, it is completely enclosed by a stone wall with turrets on a 50-acre estate in Versailles, Kentucky. Originally construction of the castle was started in the 1960’s by Rex Martin as a labor of love for his wife after they visited castles in Europe. Unfortunately, they divorced before it was finished, and it wasn’t sold until 2004. After renovations, it began operating as a bed and breakfast, and today, it is a hotel that has a spa and overlooks a beautiful horse farm. Although Rex Martin has since passed away, Mrs. Martin reportedly still dines here.

During our visit at the pool, a Princess Party was enjoying the space too. There were a couple girls discussing which princess dress to wear to dinner.

Upcoming in July 2019, some princess events include a “Be Our Guest” original dinner theater experience in the Grand Ballroom with Princess Belle, Little Mermaid Pool Party and a Tea Party with Anna and Elsa.

We stayed out late swimming until the very last moment we could and then dried off in the sauna. After kid swim, there is an adult-only swim time in the evening, so it makes for a great getaway for friends too.

In July 2019, some other events guests can enjoy include watching a mystery dinner theater and comedy show on the rooftop and doing sunset yoga in the courtyard. You can see a “Driving Miss Daisy” live theater with lunch and attend a VIP dinner and Troubadour Concert live with the Grascals.

After dinner, we were off to our chalet for the night. Each chateau is separated from the main building, which makes for a serene setting. A door opens to the balcony where you can see the sunset and enjoy the view of the castle.

Upon entering the chalet, there is a room with a small dining table, kitchenette, television, and sleeper sofa. The staircase winds up to the second floor, which is perfect for princesses to make their appearance for the evening.

On the second floor, there is a comfortable queen size bed and a television. This room opens out to the balcony that faces the castle.

The bathroom is elegantly designed with tile, and it has another balcony where you can look out to the large field from the castle to the main road.

Although my stay was hosted, the front desk let me know that my chalet would have been about $500. The price can vary depending on the night. In general, rooms go from around $300 – $600.

Staying at a castle was a magical memory for my children. Their genuine grins at the pool will be forever memorable to me too! Perhaps some people never outgrow the enjoyment of feeling like a princess.
