Heading back to school this year, Samantha needs to be ready for the big kid section of the playground. With loose wood chips on the ground and tall slides to slide down, the playground requires sturdy, supportive shoes. Summer sandals and attractive flats won’t work. In my search for the best kids’ shoes for the fall of 2015, I came across a brand of shoes called Keen. The company contacted me to see if I would be interested in covering their products, so my daughter got to try out a pair of the Keen Little Kids’ Monica CNX in the Dahlia Mauve/Lagoon color.

Using the sizing chart online as well as an online ruler, I came up with my guess for the size of Samantha’s shoes. It’s always hard to size shoes when you can’t try them on, but in this case, the sizing chart worked great. The shoes had just enough space for growth during the winter, and they might last even longer. Appropriate sizing made the shoes comfortable, so they worked great on a bike ride around the neighborhood. Riding a bike with 20″ wheels requires durable shoes. I was happy that the shoes gave good support because without support, she could have fallen off her bike.

When we took a trip to a local store to pick out clothes for kindergarten, Samantha wore the shoes again. Trying out the latest lines of clothing, she put back on her Keen shoes to see how well she could move in the different items. All of the clothes looked great with the shoes. I would highly recommend the shoes to back to school shoppers looking for a trendy style with practical support.

Another cool thing about the shoes was the design. Since Samantha can’t tie her shoes yet, the velcro strap offered convenience, while the look of having laces made the shoes more sophisticated to her. The soles of the shoes are very sturdy, which makes them ideal for kindergarten. There’s enough space in the soles to protect against hard objects on the ground. When we take trips to pick out pumpkins and Christmas trees this year at local farms, the shoes will work well on the different terrains.

Since the colors of the shoes are Samantha’s favorite colors, I’m relieved I won’t have to argue with her to get her to wear appropriate shoes. The pink color will go well with all of her outfits this year. Plus, as long as the shoes don’t get too dirty, they look nice enough for her to wear them with dresses and skirts. I look forward to feeling secure that she won’t be falling on the playground when she heads off to her first year in an all day school program.
