One of the highlights of our recent visit to Gettysburg was our stay at the Wyndham hotel at Gateway Gettysburg. During our three night, four day stay, the hotel made our visit comfortable for the whole family. Although we often visited historic Gettysburg, returning to the hotel was always a relaxing experience.

Modern Convenience Meets History At The Gateway Gettysburg Wyndham Hotel

Downtown Gettysburg offers many historic hotels. If you want a spacious hotel room, nearby family friendly dining, and more, check out the Gettysburg Wyndham. This hotel offers modern convenience with a historical theme.

Day One

After checking in, the front desk informed me that a table full of gifts was awaiting my family and me. Everything I opened hinted at the fun my family was about to have! From our upcoming visits to The Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg, the Dobbin House Tavern, and more, the basket was a generous gesture. Check out the video of me opening everything.

Next, we checked out our hotel room. When I walked into the King Suite, I had no idea what to expect. Pictures don’t quite do the hotel suite justice. That’s why I shared a video walk through as well.

In addition to the luxurious King bed, the suite had a walk in space for storing luggage, a separate room for the children’s fold out sofa, and a shared bathroom with a large, jetted shower. When you’re staying at a hotel for multiple nights, comfortable accommodations are a must have. We were all pleased with the layout of our room. Everyone slept comfortably during our stay.

Although we had plenty to do in Gettysburg (I’ll share my itinerary at a later time), it was always nice to come back to rest. With the children in their own space – that included its own television – the whole family could relax.

Day Two

The next morning, we walked downstairs to eat at the 1863 Restaurant. We were seated in a light-filled, spacious section.

For my daughters, I ordered the Old Fashioned Belgian Waffles with whipped cream, maple syrup, and strawberries. The waffles were delicious, and the fresh fruit was very appealing.

I ordered the Adams County breakfast. With buttermilk pancakes, maple syrup, three sunny side up eggs, and caramelized apple on top of scrapple, the meal was very filling and delicious.

Dining at the 1863 Restaurant was a wonderful way to start our second day in Gettysburg.

Day Three

On our third day, we woke up early to enjoy the large pool at the Gettysburg Wyndham. pool at Gettysburg Wyndham

At the pool, you can also get in the hot tub to relax. Next to the hot tub area is a work out center if you plan to exercise during your visit.

My children had a wonderful time waking up to swim before the pool got busy! We had the pool all to ourselves. This was the first time my younger daughter has gone swimming this summer, and she had an incredible time.

At the end of our third day, we caught a movie at the Gateway Theater. Although I wasn’t able to confirm the factual basis of this story, someone working at the restaurant had told me that the Gateway Gettysburg area was founded by a man who was a filmmaker. When he created his movie, he wanted a space to show it, so he created the Gateway Theater. Then, he decided this was a good space for hotels too, and he added the Gettysburg Wyndham as well as the Courtyard Marriott.

Having a movie theater within walking distance to the hotel was nice. We watched a 9:30 p.m. showing of Captain Underpants. Going out to see a movie so late with young children was risky, but we knew that we could always walk back to the hotel if they were too tired. Everyone ended up happily staying awake during the movie and having a wonderful time.

Day Four

On our last day, we did a late check out so we could continue to explore Gettysburg. While the area has many historical attractions, I liked that our hotel had a historical theme. Walking in, you see an authentic Civil War cannon by the front desk.Cannon at the front desk of the Gateway Gettysburg Wyndham Hotel

Not only does the front desk area have Civil War memorabilia, but also the whole hotel has patriotic decor. From paintings of presidents to a red, white, and blue theme throughout the hotel, the theme does a good job of reminding visitors of how much Gettysburg matters to our country’s history.

While much of what we did during our visit was outside of the Gateway Gettysburg area, staying at a nice hotel made our stay wonderful for the whole family. Everyone enjoyed the spacious suite. With a fantastic breakfast, a large pool, and historically-inspired decorations, the Gettysburg Wyndham was a comfortable place to stay.
